This site serves a collection of web-based tools for the Cava Lab. Some of the tools are specific to the lab itself (e.g. the signup sheet and logbook), but others are more widely applicable (e.g. ChemSolve). A brief description of the world-accessible tools is given below.
ChemSolve
ChemSolve is a utility designed to calculate the quantities of starting materials necessary for a particular synthesis. It also computes molar masses of each species as well as the expected mass of product. It deals cleanly with starting materials that lose mass to the atmosphere during heating, such as hydrates and carbonates, as well as handling reactions that pickup mass (such as oxygen) from the air. It is completely configurable and can handle arbitrarily complex reactant scenarios, assuming a single desired product.
